Better Late Than Never!

Our blog is two days late this week.

As educators, we should probably be setting a better example when it comes to deadlines. We could blame technology, the weather, the OakWell dogs, an overenthusiastic to-do list, or perhaps the fact that there never seem to be enough hours in the day. The truth, however, is much simpler.

We have been busy.

Very busy.

In fact, over the last few weeks, 'OakWell Education' has found itself doing something we promised ourselves we would try not to do: working seven days a week.

Before anyone starts worrying, this is not a complaint. It is actually something we feel incredibly grateful for. The reason we have been working every day is because students and families have needed support, and when someone reaches out for help, it is very difficult (if not impossible) to say no.

Education does not always fit neatly into a Monday-to-Friday timetable. Anxiety does not check the calendar before making an appearance. Exam worries do not politely wait until office hours. Confidence struggles do not disappear because it is a Sunday afternoon. Sometimes students need help now, not next week.

Over recent months we have worked with students preparing for GCSEs and A Levels, students rebuilding confidence after difficult experiences in school, students navigating neurodiversity, students managing anxiety, and students who simply needed someone to believe in them for a while. We have also supported parents who were worried, frustrated, exhausted, or searching for answers.

Every single conversation matters.

One of the greatest privileges of this work is being trusted at those moments when someone feels stuck. Often the academic progress follows naturally once a student feels heard, understood, and supported. Sometimes an hour spent rebuilding confidence can achieve far more than an hour spent revising quotations or memorising psychological studies.

Of course, working seven days a week is not something we would recommend forever. Even mighty oaks need a little sunshine and water from time to time. The OakWell dogs certainly agree and are becoming increasingly vocal in their demands for walks, cuddles and afternoons spent doing absolutely nothing productive.

However, for now, when students need us, we are here.

So yes, the blog is two days late. The irony of writing about deadlines while missing one is not lost on us. Yet if the reason is that we have been helping a student understand Shakespeare, conquer exam nerves, find their confidence, complete an assignment, or simply realise that their voice matters, then perhaps that is a deadline worth missing.

As the saying goes, better late than never.

So, if you or someone you know could benefit from a little extra support, whether through tutoring, coaching, SEN guidance, safeguarding training or simply a conversation about what might help next, 'OakWell Education' is always happy to chat.

After all, helping people grow is the reason we started this journey in the first place.
